Baby Shower Games and Fun Ideas

!±8± Baby Shower Games and Fun Ideas

Traditional Baby Shower Games can be an exciting way to get your guests involved in the shower festivities and will also serve as an ice breaker for those who may not know each other all that well. Every game has a winner (or two in the case of a tie) so you will need to have some fun and clever prizes for the victorious as well as some thoughtful parting gifts for all of your guests (even the ones who did not win any games!). Here are a few ideas for activities and games that are sure to entertain:

How Big Is Mommy's Tummy?

Using pieces of yarn or sheets of toilet paper to guess the size of mommy's tummy is an age old favorite that is simple to perform and always sure to get the party off to a fun start. Whoever comes closest to the actual circumference of the baby-belly is the winner.

Don't Say "Baby"!

Everyone starts off wearing a pin on their shirt. If you catch someone saying the word "baby" during the party, you take their pin and put it on your shirt. Whoever ends up wearing the most pins by the end of the night wins.

Blind Fold Taste Test

The Baby food guessing game is classic shower activity that is sure to provide knee slapping laughs. Blind folded contestants taste spoonfuls of various baby foods and the person who correctly identifies the most flavors is the winner (or loser if you consider the toll on their taste buds!).

Baby Bingo

Personalize your own game of baby bingo creating spaces that include mommy's name, the baby's due date, and other fun facts about the family.

There are plenty of fun and creative games that you can play with your guests that require nothing more than pencil and paper. How many baby items can you list in 30 seconds? It sounds simple and easy but you would be surprised how much (or how little) can come to mind when the stop watch is running. The winner is the person who can list the most items before time is up, but everyone playing is sure to get a kick out of some the answers when you take turns reading them aloud!

You can also put your creativity to work and come up with your own Unique Baby Shower Games, tailoring your party activities to match the personality and preferences of the mother-to-be.

Congratulations and have a wonderful baby shower!

How Do Auctioneers Feel About Their Audiences?

!±8± How Do Auctioneers Feel About Their Audiences?

It is not very often that much is said on this particular subject. In other words, most people are never going to know how an auctioneer really feels about his audience. They are not going to know because any auctioneer currently working in the business is never going to say. Usually such information will only come from an auctioneer who is either retired or willing to use an alias.

Since audiences are the bread and butter of any auctioneer's career, for the most part, auctioneers usually look upon them favorably. If they do not, then it is probably time for those particular auctioneers to put away their gavels.

Frequently it is just certain people, not their audiences as a whole, that irritate auctioneers. First on the list would be the customers who do not think that the rules of the house apply to them. Having to constantly keep an eye on these people while trying to call a sale is difficult at best. Rule breakers are not looked upon favorably by most auctioneers.

Next on the list would be the high maintenance customers - the whiners. There are people who whine about everything. They whine because they don't have a pencil, someone took their seat, the food is cold, why is the item they want to buy so late in the sale, there are not enough boxes, they did not get a good parking space and on and on and on.

Then there are the talkers. In addition to going to an auction to buy, they are also there to socialize. There is nothing wrong with being friendly and showing an interest in someone's new baby. There is however something wrong when they bid on the incorrect items because they are looking at baby pictures or writing down the newest brownie recipe.

Last but not least there are those who are untutored in the subtle art of the "favor." Most auctioneers try to be even-handed in their dealings with everyone. It is not in an auctioneer's best interest to be otherwise. When an auctioneer sees a customer who has bid on any number of items but has failed to win even one of them for whatever reason, the auctioneer will most likely knock an item down to that bidder before he or she loses out again.

A little later the auctioneer might ask for an opening bid on an item and that very same bidder will make the auctioneer drop the opening price all the way down to the cellar. That same bidder will wind up bidding five times the opening amount originally requested. Instead of just giving the auctioneer his opening bid, he has to work twice as hard to ultimately get the same ending price. This is an example of someone not understanding the meaning of the word "favor."

Auctioneers do have a tendency to like and respect the heavy hitters that are at their auctions every week rain or shine. However, they do not like and respect them for the reason one might think. Sure, these heavy hitters spend a lot of money and that would certainly make any auctioneer happy, but it is the way in which these buyers handle themselves that earns them an auctioneer's gratitude.

When someone purchases a lot of items there are always occasional problems - a few missed bids, a misplaced item that was taken by someone else, a piece that was broken by the house after it was bought, etc. It would be a rare occurrence for one of these big buyers to ever complain about any of these things. They just take it in stride as part of the cost of doing business. The attitude is usually one of, "Don't worry about it. It's not important."

Heavy hitters attend many auctions and they buy an extensive amount of merchandise. They see first hand how tough the auction business is. They also understand how important auctions are to the continued success of their own businesses.

It is common place for people to talk about auction houses and auctioneers -- what they like and what they don't like. Now everyone has an idea of what it looks like on the other side of the fence.

Rocket Spanish Reviewed - Is This Program a Good Way to Learn Spanish?

!±8± Rocket Spanish Reviewed - Is This Program a Good Way to Learn Spanish?

Rocket Spanish is a Spanish-language learning course produced by the Rocket Languages Group and is available in digital media. The learning course is downloadable in mp3 format and the sales pitch says that it is the easiest way to learn Spanish. Of course every vendor says that his program is the easiest, fastest and best! This review will focus on whether Rocket Spanish is all that it is cracked up to be or is it something less.

Rocket Spanish teaches, using interactive speaking techniques, listening to and practicing dialog. The learner uses the new language to deal with familiar thoughts, situations and conversations, gradually expanding his understanding and ability to communicate. Through this method the student learns another language in a manner not too different from the way he learned his first language.

This approach, pioneered and popularized by Michel Thomas, Paul Pinsleur and others, has achieved considerable popularity in recent times. There is much evidence that this method is one of the most effective ways to learn language.

The course is downloadable in MP3 format. This enables the learner/student to listen to it either on his or her computer or to download it to an iPod or other MP3 player or burn a CD and hear it on any CD player. This gives the learner great flexibility in choosing where and how to listen to the course materials.

A unique feature of the course is the way it uses online interaction to teach. For example, you are shown an object and then given three options to pick the Spanish name for the object. This is critical to help you learn to go from the object directly to the name for it in Spanish.

The natural beginners tendency is to go from object to English name to translation to Spanish name. You will need to get past that and go direct from object to name of object in Spanish. This lets you begin to think in the language, a necessity to develop fluency. Rocket Spanish is very good at helping you do exactly that.

The course consists of 31 interactive lessons, which you can go through at your own speed. Fast would be 2-3 weeks, normal is about 3 months.

Successfully finishing the course would put you at an early intermediate level of conversational ability. You should be able to easily carry on everyday social and commercial conversations with native speakers of Spanish.

Another fairly unique aspect of Rocket Spanish is its emphasis on good pronunciation. One of their selling points is that you will learn to speak Spanish like a native. This is not University level proper "Castellano", as the pure form of the language is called, but everyday conversational use Spanish. You will be able to understand and make yourself understood when talking to ordinary people.

The only limitation is that the course does not impart a thorough grounding in grammar, verb conjugation and vocabulary. But it does provide an excellent beginning framework within which to add these skills later, if you choose.

In summary, Rocket Spanish is an exceptionally good overall conversational course. It gives you a sound foundation in pronunciation and conversational basics. It puts you well beyond "advanced travelers' Spanish" into intermediate level conversational ability in the language.

Night Vision

!±8± Night Vision

What can you do with a night vision device? Remember the movie "The Silence of the Lambs," was a scene in which Jody Foster, an FBI agent thought they were alone in a basement of an old house with a killer insane. She had the upper hand over her suspicion, he pulled a fast and turned the power switch. Jody immediately found himself in total darkness. Sure, he had the gun, but she could not see anything. It was so dark, which in the prison of a musty basementcould not see his hand before his face. The murderess, however, had predicted before this event and had bought a pair of night vision military equipment. Jody could see, but she could not see. Very scary.

What can you do with a night vision device? Well, for one thing, if you're a hunter of animals, which come at night just to see you in a much better position to make your booty. I found a small family of raccoons in my backyard this summer and has spent severalEvenings in search of them with a flashlight. There were four baby raccoons and mom. I found them generally with my hearing is not in sight. But I think it would be much easier if I have a pair of glasses for night vision or night vision equipment to help was me.

If you're in the military and go to the front I think that night vision equipment is a matter of standard. If you must own the dark, is a must have tool. I do not think I've ever seen onePicture the other side with night vision devices and I think it's a good idea to keep it that way.
